Rainforest mobile web testing FAQ

Rainforest Mobile Web testing allows you to test the functionality of your website as configured for a mobile device. Rainforest currently supports both Android and iOS mobile web testing.

Did I select the right browsers?

Once enabled for your account, create a test and select the appropriate test type as that dictates the platforms that will be available. In this case, select 'Desktop/Mobile Web' test type. The mobile web browsers can then be selected from the Feature Level, Run Group Level, or test level when running an individual or multiple tests dynamically. The platform options are displayed in this modal.

Are mobile web tests executed on real devices?

Yes. You can run mobile web testing on real devices and/or mobile virtual machines.

Should I run the same test simultaneously on both Mobile and Desktop Browsers?

The answer depends on your application. If there is little or no difference in your UI and how a person would interact with either site, then feel free to use the same test for both mobile and desktop browser testing.

If however, your mobile web's UI differs significantly from your desktop browser's UI, you will want to have an independent suite of tests (separate Feature or Run Group) to cover this particular version of your app. This is because the tester will have to interact with your mobile site differently than on the desktop version, and the test instructions may not accurately describe the exact actions the tester is to perform. This is a common cause of failures in these kinds of situations.

For example, a login button may be located at the top right-hand corner on a desktop site, but the same function is accessed on the mobile site by first clicking an icon with three horizontal bars in the upper left-hand corner of the page. If a test instructs a tester to login by clicking the blue "Login" button but on your mobile web version the button is not blue, the test against the mobile version would fail because of the UI differences.
