Rainforest Private SMS Numbers

Rainforest lets customers use private SMS numbers that are dedicated to your account. These are unique, static numbers that are not shared with other clients. Customers are free to use these phone numbers however they wish.

This can be helpful for a few use cases, including two-factor authentication, which may require testers to receive messages to a dedicated phone number that’s known to the customer. 

How to use private SMS numbers

Please speak with your CSM if you would like to use this feature. Once private SMS numbers are provisioned, the list of phone numbers can be accessed from Settings > Step Variables and downloaded in .csv format.

There are 2 ways to use private SMS:

  • Randomly pick a number from your account’s private pool using the {{private_sms.inbox}} variable. 
  • Pick a specific number by using the variables {{private_sms.inbox()}} and {{private_sms.number()}} to access the inbox and the actual phone number. The number should be inputted in between the parentheses in the inbox () and number () fields. 
  • In this case, the number can also be uploaded as a step variable via csv – for example: {{private_sms.inbox({{file.column}})}} is using a csv called “file” with a column called “column” where numbers are available.
